What is the Atlanta Humane Society’s Walk for the Animals?

The Walk for the Animals is our annual 5K Walk and the Atlanta Humane Society’s largest fundraising event. It is a celebratory event for you, your dog, your family and your friends! This year, the walk will be happening at Atlantic Station on Sunday, October 15, 2017.

Where does the money go?

By participating in the Walk for the Animals, you will be saving the lives of animals across Georgia and the Southeast. Your support will help the Atlanta Humane Society provide an array of programs and services to meet the needs of the communities we serve including adoption, animal rescue, low-cost spay and neuter, pet training, animal surrender, and transport.

What does it mean to be a Team Captain?

Team Captains help recruit and organize a team of walkers. With our step-by-step guide to leading your team, being a Team Captain is fun, easy and incredibly impactful.

Where can I register?

You and your team can register by visiting and clicking “Register”. If you have walked at the Walk for the Animals online, you can re-register you and your team by logging into your Walk for the Animals account.

Is there a registration fee?

There is not! Registration for the Walk for the Animals is free. Once you are registered, we encourage you to set up a personal fundraising page to help support the animals in our care and share with your friends and family why you want to make a difference in the their lives.

Can anyone participate? Yes, of course!

The Walk for the Animals is open to the public and fully accessible. All are welcome to participant, including friendly pets who would enjoy the lively, celebratory environment! Pets must be leashed, up-to-date on vaccinations and in control at all times during the event.

What time is the Walk for the Animals?

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with activities for you and your pet happening up until the walk kickoff at 9:00 a.m.

Where do I show up on walk day?

On walk day, please check in at the registration tent at 17 Street near Rosa Mexicano. Atlantic Station underground parking will be available and accessible on walk day.

How long is the Walk for the Animals?

The Walk for the Animals is approximately three miles with a one-mile route available for those who would like shorter stroll around Atlantic Station.

What if I can’t attend the Walk for the Animals?

If you can’t make it to the Walk for the Animals day-of activities, you can still participate! The Walk for the Animals is a massive summer-long fundraising event that ends with our event day celebrations on October 15. Your participation in the Walk for the Animals however occurs throughout the summer and up to event day. All funds collected before the event help save the lives of animals in need. You don’t need to come to the celebrations on October 15 to make an impact on the animals and participate in the Walk for the Animals (though we would love to have you!).

Who should I make checks out to?

Checks should be made out to the Atlanta Humane Society and mailed or dropped off at the Atlanta Humane Society along with a completed contribution form:

All donations are tax deductible and the Atlanta Humane Society’s tax ID number is 58-0685900. If you register for the Walk online, we will input all check donations into your personal fundraising page once they have been processed. You can also bring donations with you on the day of the walk along with your registration form.
